Blazers fall to Wheat Kings 6-2

Dec 10, 2023 | 8:31 AM

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Blazers are still looking for their first win on their five-game Prairie road trip.

After a comeback attempt fell just short in a 6-4 loss to the Regina Pats the night prior, the Blazers fell to the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-2 on Saturday (Dec. 9).

The game started well enough for the Blazers with Shea Van Olm deking to the backhand to open the scoring, but the Wheat Kings responded with three unanswered goals.

Late in the second period, the Blazers appeared to have a chance to go into the third period with momentum. Dylan Sydor was in the crease and put the puck in after it deflected to him to make it a 3-2 game.

But 30 seconds later, after a failed clearing attempt, Caleb Hadland wristed the puck home from the right circle to give the Wheat Kings a 4-2 lead after two periods. The Wheat Kings added two goals in the third period en route to the 6-2 win.

The Blazers fall to 7-18-3-2 on the 2023-24 Western Hockey League season, good for 19 points in 30 games. They remain at the bottom of the Western Conference.

The Blazers continue their road trip Tuesday (Dec. 12) when they visit the Prince Albert Raiders. The Blazers don’t play at home until Wednesday, Dec. 27 when they welcome the Kelowna Rockets to Sandman Centre.
