Slight decrease in police reports has Kamloops top cop praising prolific offender programs

KAMLOOPS – During Thursday’s (Dec. 7) City of Kamloops Safety and Security Select Committee Meeting, Kamloops RCMP presented a report for its third quarter.

According to Superintendent Jeff Pelley, the city saw a slight decrease in police files compared to last year’s third quarter.

Pelley attributed the three per cent decrease to RCMP strategies as well as the Repeat Violent Offender Initiative.

“We have a number of areas where we’ve had reductions involving the theft from motor vehicles, theft of vehicles, our person offences have reduced, our robberies have reduced dramatically,” Pelley said. “We have a slight increase in break and enter to businesses.”

Pelley said the RCMP focus on prolific offenders has led to fewer crimes being committed.

“We keep focusing on our priority offenders who are responsible for these crimes throughout our community with a number of strategies and a multi-pronged approach involving multiple policing units,” Pelley said.
