WILLIAMS LAKE, B.C. — Thompson Rivers University (TRU) has announced the Applied Sustainable Ranching program in Williams Lake has been overhauled and renamed to Regenerative Agriculture (RGEN), seeking to accommodate the needs of students in a changing landscape.

Various upgrades have been made, while retaining a foundation in business management and soil health. The next program intake is scheduled for January, 2024.

Changes include the implementation of three credit courses lasting three weeks, the addition of Food Sovereignty, Technology in Agriculture and Emergency Preparedness courses, and the formalization of the host-farm practicum as a credit course to include performance reviews.

Regenerative Agriculture program coordinator Gillian Watt said the revamp was made to effectively harbour the recent effects of climate change and make the program accessible to a wider range of students.

“With the effects of climate change looming all around us, the importance of understanding and learning how to apply regenerative agriculture practices has never been more vital,” said Watt.
