KAMLOOPS — A police project targeting known drug dealers in Kamloops earlier this month resulted in drug and weapons seizures.

In a news release issued Friday (Nov. 24), Kamloops RCMP say the initiative involved the detachment’s Crime Reduction Unit, frontline officers and members of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit (CFSEU) out of the Lower Mainland.

Between November 2 and 5, officers carried out a series of raids, seizing knives, a hatchet, a handgun, cash, drugs and contraband cigarettes. Six people were arrested and released pending the investigation’s completion.

“The joint initiative was a result of our local detachment’s request to have the specialized team attend Kamloops and assist our Crime Reduction Unit in targeting known offenders, particularly those attached to drug trafficking,” said Supt. Jeff Pelley. “By using intelligence-based policing practices, officers were able to identify offenders and extend efforts to suppress and disrupt the criminal activities of those involved in drug dealing and localized violence.”
