Mariah Carey’s Kick Off To The Holidays
Mariah Carey released a video on social media yesterday that shows her frozen in a block of ice as a clock changes from October 31 to November 1. Assistants dressed in Halloween costumes start thawing the ice, which Carey breaks by singing a high note. Carey then celebrates as her blockbuster holiday hit “All I Want for Christmas is You” plays in the background. But not everyone is in the holiday spirit. Carey is again being sued over the song by Andy Stone and Troy Powers for at least $20 million in damages, insisting Carey copied their 1989 song of the same name. They claim the lyrical hook, melody, and overall feel is too similar, claiming Carey “palmed off these works with her incredulous origin story, as if those works were her own.” Last year’s suit came to nothing, and Carey hasn’t commented. Her annual holiday season tour kicks off November 15th in California and concludes December 17th in New York City.
