Former Blazer captain Zary scores in his NHL debut

CALGARY — Former Kamloops Blazers’ forward Connor Zary made his NHL debut even more memorable.

Zary, playing for the Calgary Flames Wednesday night (Nov. 1) against the Dallas Stars, registered his first NHL goal 5:28 into the first period of his first game.

The Saskatoon native, who served as the Blazers’ captain during the 2020-21 pod season, pounced on a loose puck behind Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger and shovelled it into the open net.

The Flames weren’t so fortunate. Calgary threw 47 shots at Oettinger but ended up dropping a 4-3 decision to the Stars.
