CALGARY — The Western Hockey League has announced it is mandating the use of neck guards after the tragic death of a professional hockey player in Great Britain.
In a news release issued Wednesday (Nov. 1), the league says all players must wear neck guard protection beginning Friday, or as soon as the equipment is available to WHL teams.
The guards must be worn during games, practices and any other on-ice activity.
The two other leagues in the Canadian Hockey League — the Ontario Hockey League and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League — both already mandate neck guards.
