KELOWNA — The Jim Pattison Foundation has committed to donating $5 million to the creation of the new Centre for Health System Learning and Innovation located at the Kelowna General Hospital (KGH).

In a news release Wednesday (Nov. 1) morning, Interior Health stated the centre will be the first of its kind, focusing on rural, remote, Indigenous and community health care.

It will be a primarily virtual network connecting innovators, clinical teams, patients, and other groups to “Come together, discover and implement innovative health-care solutions for the diverse population of the Interior,” said Interior Health.

The $5 million donation will be provided to the KGH Foundation as an addition to the ‘Closer to Home Than You Think’ campaign.

This $40 million fundraising initiative promises to fund changes to local health care in the areas of cancer, cardiac, system innovation, women’s health, bone and joint health, mental health, brain health and clinical excellence.

“This gift represents a transformational step forward in reimagining front-line patient care in Indigenous, rural and remote communities through innovation based on research done right here at home,” declared Health Minister Adrian Dix.

Jim Pattison was unable to attend the event, but shared his support via a pre-recorded video announcement.

More information on the campaign and fundraising goals can be found by visiting KGH’s website.
