Freezing rain warning expands throughout Kamloops and area

KAMLOOPS — A freezing rain warning has been expanded throughout Kamloops and area.

Environment Canada’s warning for the 100 Mile, Nicola and South Thompson regions — along with the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Kamloops, the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna and the Cariboo Highway from Clinton to 100 Mile House — lasts from Wednesday night (Nov. 1) until Thursday morning.

Additionally, the Cariboo, North Thompson and Shuswap regions can expect widespread snowfall of five to 10 centimetres Thursday, with a risk of freezing rain.

Meteorologist Philippe-Alain Bergeron with Environment Canada says it’s due to a storm approaching Kamloops and area from the Pacific Southwest.

“Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays. Utility outages may occur,” Environment Canada states.

The freezing rain is expected to end or change to regular rain Thursday morning as the cold air erodes.

Meantime, motorists are asked to change their driving with changing road conditions and be mindful that weather in the mountains can change suddenly and create hazardous conditions.
