LOUIS CREEK, B.C. — B.C.’s police watchdog has exonerated a Barriere RCMP officer who shot an armed suspect in May of last year.

Mounties were called to the 3400-block of Highway 5 in Louis Creek at about 9:00 p.m. on May 20, 2022. Police were told there was a man with a weapon at that spot.

“When officers arrived, there was an interaction and shots were fired by police,” said a news release from the Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO). The man was taken to hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound.

In a news release, the IIO says its general counsel reviewed the evidence in the case, including forensic scene analysis, video footage, medical records and police information. The counsel determined there are no grounds to conclude any officer committed an offence as part of the incident.
