Coquihalla Highway and Okanagan Connector due for another snowy day

KAMLOOPS — Snow continues to fall on stretches of the Coquihalla Highway between Hope and Kamloops and the Okanagan Connector between Merritt and Kelowna this morning (Oct. 24).

From Tuesday morning until Tuesday night, Environment Canada forecasts five to 15 centimetres of snow for the Coquihalla between Merritt and Hope near the Coquihalla Summit and Allison Pass and 5 to 10 centimeters on the Coquihalla between Merritt and Kamloops, and the Okanagan Connector.

Additionally, the weather agency warns gusty winds are blowing local snow that will reduce drivers’ visibility.

It’s due to a slow-moving arctic front that’s lowering freezing levels and bringing the first snow of the season to Interior highways.

Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations and drivers are being asked to adjust their driving to the changing conditions, such as slowing down, watching for taillights ahead and being prepared to stop.

Environment Canada says weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
