KAMLOOPS — Have you ever driven by the Thompson Rivers University campus on McGill Road and wondered just what goes on in that collection of buildings?

Well, Saturday (Oct. 21) was your chance to find out, as TRU held its annual Open House — and this year, it was meant for more than just prospective students.

“We are so central in Kamloops, and we’re such a big part of the Kamloops community,” Amy Watters, coordinator of programs and events for future students at TRU, explains. “I think there are a lot of people who haven’t had the opportunity to come to campus, maybe didn’t feel they could come to campus. This is our opportunity to say, ‘You’re welcome here. Come get to know us and check things out. Have a fun, free thing to do on Saturday.’ We’re really excited to see that community has come out.”

The open house took place all across campus, with demonstrations, information sessions and fun displays in each building. Watters says there were a few spots she planned to visit if her busy organizing schedule allowed for it.

“I would say we have more than 100 displays, booths and activities happening, so there is something for everyone. I’m particularly excited about the physics and chemistry magic show. Adventure Studies has some really cool activities going on. The Culinary Arts kitchen is open, trades labs are open. Really, there’s something in every building I want to stop in and check out.”

If you happened to miss the 2023 Open House, you can still get information on the programs TRU has to offer. You can visit www.tru.ca/future to find out about some of the upcoming information sessions on offer.
