KAMLOOPS — A downed power pole on the Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview was the cause of a large power outage in Kamloops Sunday (Oct. 22) night.

DriveBC reported of a vehicle incident on Highway 1 near Grand Boulevard that downed a BC Hydro pole at around 8:15 p.m. Sunday. BC Hydro stated in its power outage map that a motor vehicle incident knocked off power at 7:50 p.m. Sunday.

During the outage’s peak, BC Hydro reported 3,081 customers were without power. Residents in Barnhartvale, Dallas and parts of Juniper Ridge were blanketed by the outage, but power has since been restored.

As of Monday morning, DriveBC says the incident near Grand Boulevard has the right lane closed for eastbound traffic, but the left lane is open. Drivers are asked to slow down and watch for emergency responders in the area.
