TNRD will not take over 70 Mile House Fire Department
70 MILE HOUSE, B.C. — The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is putting a stop to the process of taking over the 70 Mile House Fire Department.
In September, the TNRD held a community meeting to inform residents of the results of a feasibility study. The study looked into the costs of taking over the existing, associate-run volunteer department.
If the regional district were to administer the department, it would require upgraded training and equipment, which comes at a cost. Instead of the $30,000 annual grant-in-aid that funds the 70 Mile Fire Department Association now, a TNRD-administered department would be funded through property taxes.
In a news release issued Thursday (Oct. 19), the TNRD says it is not moving forward after hearing from the public during the consultation process.
