Preliminary Kamloops-Thompson enrolment up 240 students from last year

KAMLOOPS — Preliminary enrolment numbers presented to the Kamloops-Thompson School District Board of Education Monday (Oct. 17) show about 250 more students going to public schools this year than expected.

The report shows a total of 15,583.25 student spots in Kamloops schools as of October 6. The district had projected 15,335.375 student spaces, marking a difference of 247.875.

The numbers break down as follows:

  • Kindergarten — 1,097 (1,031 projected)
  • Grades 1-7 — 8,281 (8,211 projected)
  • Grades 8-12 — 6,205.25 (6,093.375 projected)

This year’s enrolment is also up from the beginning of the 2022-23 school year.

The report 70 more student spots filled in Grades 1-7 and about 112 more in Grades 8-12. In kindergarten, there are 29 fewer students registered for this school year than for last. In total, the increase from last year to this year is about 240 students.

In the Distributed Learning category, there are 263.125 student spots filled this year, compared to an initial projection of 247.563, for a difference of 15.562. At the beginning of last school year, there were 239.025 spots filled in the Distributed Learning category.
