TNRD holds open houses to help better protect communities from wildfires
KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) is hosting a series of open houses this month. The information sessions — which have already been held in Savona, Blue River and Clearwater — include individual and community FireSmart programs.
Monday night (Oct. 16), TNRD is holding an open house in Heffley Creek, where they will provide residents with information about reducing the risk of wildfire to their homes and properties.
“The message revolves around FireSmart… and it starts with the home ignition zones. And even if you’re surrounded by forest and you live in the WUI — the wildland urban interface — it’s very important to reduce the amount of fuel that you have around your house,” explained Daniel Funk, Fire Smart Coordinator with TNRD.
