Interior Health issues warning after highly toxic drug supply found in Kamloops

KAMLOOPS — Interior Health has issued a drug alert for Kamloops.

The alert, issued Thursday (Oct. 12), will be in effect for one week.

It warns people who use drugs that a grey powder sold as ‘down’ has been found to contain a high concentration of both fentanyl and fentanyl analogues, along with extremely high amounts of benzodiazepines, which have a long-lasting effect.

IH says people who use this substance are at a high risk of overdose and death. The impacts of this drug may not be impacted by naloxone.

Users may also experience amnesia, sleepiness and nodding out for a long time.
