Third quarter passenger numbers on the rise at YKA

KAMLOOPS — The Kamloops Airport saw another swell of passenger numbers this summer, but rates are still lower than they were before the COVID-19 pandemic.

YKA released its third quarter traveler numbers today (Oct. 11), showing an 11.1 per cent increase for July, August and September of this year, compared to the same time period last year.

However, passenger numbers are still below what they were pre-pandemic. In the third quarter of 2019, Fulton Field saw 84,748 passengers, and in 2023, the airport saw 74,092 passengers in Q3.

In a news release, airport management states the recent numbers show a slower than anticipated recovery from the pandemic. The airport relates this to industry challenges around flight crew availability for regional markets and the reduction in flight service to the Calgary area.
