Blazers’ Minten to start NHL season on Maple Leafs’ roster

TORONTO — Kamloops Blazers forward Fraser Minten was the surprise of this year’s Toronto Maple Leafs training camp. Now, the 19-year-old Vancouver native has been rewarded.

The Maple Leafs announced Monday (Oct. 9) that Minten will begin the year on the Maple Leafs’ roster.

The Maple Leafs drafted Minten in the second round, 38th overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The centre recorded 67 points (31 goals, 36 assists) in 57 games with the Blazers in the 2022-23 WHL season.

Minten signed an entry-level contract with Toronto in October 2022. He can appear in up to nine NHL games without burning a year of that contract.

In other NHL news related to the Blazers, former Kamloops forward Jakub Demek has signed a three-year, entry-level contact with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Demek, 20 years old and from Kosice, Slovakia, was drafted in the fourth round, 128th overall by the Golden Knights in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Injured for much of the 2022-23 season, he finished the Blazers’ regular season with 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) in 15 games. He added 11 points in 14 playoff games.
