KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack men’s soccer team secured a 4-0 victory against the UBC Okanagan Heat.

Three seniors contributed to the ‘Pack’s score during their last home weekend as U SPORTS athletes. Ryan Lewis and Dylan Hooper each scored a goal, while Patrick Izett scored a goal and provided one assist. Jonathan Rinaldi also scored a goal for TRU, and Svyatik Artemenko made seven saves to secure the shutout. Jacob York and Zack MacInnes were the main scorers for the Heat, with three and two shots on goal, respectively. Despite Ronan Woodroffe’s four saves, the team lost.

Tonight (Oct 7), at 7 pm, the ‘Pack (4-6-1) will play against the Heat (3-6) at Hillside Stadium. This game will determine who takes the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific Division. The ‘Pack will honour their nine graduating players (Ethan Furlong, Matthew Hanks, Jost Hausendorf, Dylan Hooper, Patrick Izett, Ryan Lewis, Denzel Marican, Steffen Masaites and Marques Scott) before the game.

The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women’s soccer team lost 1-0 to the UBC Okanagan Heat.

Eleni Georgacacos scored the only goal for UBCO, while Talia Gagnon earned a shutout with five saves in the second half. “I thought we gave 110 per cent right until the end and we didn’t stop,” said WolfPack head coach Mark Pennington. “We lacked a little quality and a little bit of luck around the net and on another day we probably get something out of that game.”

UBCO’s win gave them a step up in the annual President’s Cup and impacted their position in the Canada West standings. TRU is four points behind UFV Cascades for the fifth and final playoff spot with two games remaining. Meanwhile, the win helped Heat solidify their hold on third place with 23 points.

The WolfPack honoured Emily Clark, a Kamloops and TRU soccer legend, for her five outstanding years with the team before the game. Both teams will play against UBC Thunderbirds and UNBC Timberwolves on the road next weekend.
