KAMLOOPS — The Trans Canada Highway has finally re-opened north of Spences Bridge, more than 24 hours after it was shut down by a horrific collision between two tractor-trailer units.

B.C. Highway Patrol (BCHP) says before 7:00 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 5), two semi units collided head on while negotiating a curve.

The northbound truck caught fire and tumbled down an embankment, coming to rest on the CN rail tracks below. The driver, a Lower Mainland man, was pronounced dead at the scene. Initially, police said the man was unaccounted for.

The driver of the southbound truck was uninjured and remained at the scene to speak to investigators.
