KAMLOOPS — It’s been 23 months since Buddy has seen his owner. Shannon White was reported missing on November 1st, 2021 after she didn’t arrive at work that morning. What happened to her is still a mystery.

“You don’t know what happened or where she is,” Shannon’s coworker and event organizer Slim Marriott says. “She’s never forgotten. It could be anybody, it could be anytime.”

On Sunday, members of the 4×4 community gathered at Rivershore Ram in Valleyview to remember White, as well as raise funds to help pay for further search efforts by the Search, Recovery, Detection K9s of BC.

“We have some dogs that are out of town, and it’s quite a bit of gas money to come up here and search for a day or two,” Mike Ritcey, President of the SRD K9s of BC explains. “That’s where the funds will go: 100 per cent will go to searching for Shannon.”

Ritcey says he and other members of the SRD K9s of BC have covered a great deal of ground in the search for White. However, despite those efforts, they’ve been unable to find any sign of the missing woman.

“We’ve had [human remains] dogs in there, we’ve had search dogs in there and nothing’s coming,” Ritcey says. “Evidently we’re looking in the wrong place. The more people that are out looking, the more chance she has of getting found.”

Slim Marriott says he thinks of Shannon every time he heads out into the backcountry. He, like so many others, just wants to know what happened to their friend.

“We have such great country back here, but every time I go out there, you’re always wondering where she is,” Marriott says. “We’d always talk about things we’ve done together. We just came up on the anniversary of Whipsaw, when we all did a trip together. Just the memories still so fresh in the mind every day, still.”
