COLLINS: Enough already! Let’s focus on what’s important
NOT TO BELITTLE THE TERRIBLE GAFFE last week by ex-House Speaker Anthony Rota, but it’s time to move on. We have far more important things to discuss.
Despite the humiliation, few Canadians are worried about Rota’s screwed-up attempt to show Ukrainian President Zelenskyy that Canada supports him in his fight against Russia. And only politicians and reporters are concerned about the ramifications of Rota’s recognition of a 98-year old man who fought in World War II under the Nazi regime. And there are several ramifications, as pointed out by the Armchair Mayor earlier this week.
But you know what? I’m way more worried about whether I will have enough money to pay all my bills this month, about whether I can stretch my grocery money far enough for 31 days, whether I will be able to keep my home when my mortgage renews in January. New figures out this past week suggest a family in Vancouver has to make $245,000 a year to buy a home, so I wonder if my kids will ever be able to rent a home, let alone buy one.
I want to make sure I will be able to pay my medical bills, be able to get a family doctor, and get an operation if I need one. Whether climate change will continue to create more drought, and larger wildfires will be wrought upon us, or we continue to pollute the environment so that our oceans become poisoned. In my little corner of the world, these are the things I’m worried about.
