KAMLOOPS — A young Blazers squad has received some reinforcements ahead of Friday night’s (Sept. 29) showdown with the Giants. Both Connor Levis and Emmitt Finnie are back from NHL training camps and raring to kick off their Blazers campaign.

“It’s great to be back at a home game here in front of the fans. Really excited to get back with the teammates and get a win tonight,” said Levis.

“We expect them to be a fast, younger team this year. They have a lot of good players, and a couple guys back from NHL camps as well. It should be a good game,” added Finnie.

For both players, it was their first time at NHL camp. Levis, who was drafted in the seventh round by the Winnipeg Jets, said it was special to play beside a few players he watched as a kid.

“Really cool experience, just getting to be in the professional environment around some pretty darn good NHL players that I have actually looked up to in the past. I have always been a Winnipeg Jets fan. Being in that environment, the coaching staff and the players it was really cool for me and I think I learned lots,” said Levis.

Finnie was drafted nine picks before Levis by the Detroit Red Wings, also in the final round of the most recent entry draft. Like Levis, he noticed the pace and competitiveness at camp was on a different level.

“Getting to see a lot of those pro guys out there, and just taking little things from them and trying to implement them to my game,” said Finnie. “Lots of things about how they take care of their bodies on and off the ice. Little things after practice I can work on to make me a better player.”

Both forwards are slated to check into the lineup for both the home game versus Vancouver and Saturday’s road contest in Everett.
