KAMLOOPS — On Saturday (Sept. 23), the third annual Justin Bosher Memorial Lacrosse tournament was held at the Tournament Captial Ranch, with more than 50 players taking part.

Bosher, who passed away in 2021, was instrumental in bringing field lacrosse to Kamloops and was a huge part of both the field and box lacrosse communities. Matthew Hans, who has organized these events over the years, remembers the impact Bosher had not only on the game but on the rest of the people, as well.

“When the Bosher family moved to Kamloops, he grew the game not only here, but throughout the entire Okanagan,” Hans recalls. “He coached basically everyone in the city, at one point or another. He had a huge impact. He was like a Dad to everyone. To me, he was such a loving person who cared for everybody and wanted us to grow not only as lacrosse players but as people as well.”

The skies opened up partway through the morning session, but the players kept playing right through the rain. Justin’s eldest son Jeremy took part in the tournament and says he’s in awe of the impact his father had on so many others.

“Growing up with it, you don’t really notice it,” Jeremy says. “Every year, to see the amount of guys that come. More and more show up, guys from the coast who haven’t been up yet that played with my dad who I haven’t seen in years. It’s really cool, and it’s special.”
