McArthur Island Slough gets a clean-up on B.C. and World Rivers Day
KAMLOOPS — September 24 was recognized as World Rivers Day, a celebration that was founded in B.C. back in 1980. Here in Kamloops, some local conservation groups partnered up to help beautify one of the natural spaces in the city.
Members of the Kamloops Naturalist Club and the Thompson-Nicola Conservation Collaborative took to the banks of the McArthur Island Slough to pick up garbage and help beautify the area in honour of World Rivers Day.
“There’s a lot of wildlife that depends on this little slough area and the river for sustenance,” KNC member Mike Dedels says. “It’s their home, so we don’t want a bunch of garbage around animal’s homes.”
