KAMLOOPS – The Thompson Rivers WolfPack women’s soccer team defeated the Calgary Dinos with a 2-1 victory at MacArthur Island yesterday (Sept. 23) for the first time in program history.

TRU’s Alexis Virgo and Berea Woldeyes scored goals, while Sofia DiGiacomo responded for Calgary. Cassandra De Amaral made six saves in the WolfPack net, while Katie French and Anna Demarbre split time for the Dinos and made a pair of stops each.

The women’s team’s win was not only historic but also significant in the Canada West standings. This weekend, they secured two victories, bringing their record to 4-4-1. However, Calgary’s defeat places them at 5-2-2, still holding a strong second place in the Prairie Division.

TRU will travel to face the UFV Cascades and TWU Spartans next weekend.

The WolfPack men’s soccer team put forward their best defensive effort of the season, resulting in a 1-0 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies yesterday (Sept 23). Agyekum, MVP of last year’s U SPORTS National Championship, scored for TRU with an assist from Mikkel Rosenlund.

The WolfPack defence held firm against a late rally by the Huskies.”The guys showed their resiliency today, that was probably our best 90 minute performance as a group,” said WolfPack head coach John Antulov. “Defensively from front to back we were absolutely fantastic and that’s our DNA – that’s our trademark. We created some really good scoring opportunities on top of that but the guys held resilient and it was a complete team performance.”

TRU won their second game, improving their record to 2-5-1, while Saskatchewan is now 1-4-3 and just outside the playoff picture.

TRU men’s soccer team will host the UFV Cascades and TWU Spartans at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops next weekend.
