VANCOUVER — The Thompson Nicola Regional Library has been recognized for one of its unique initiatives at the Union of B.C. Municipalities (UBCM) convention in Vancouver.

During its Community Excellence Award presentations, the library received an Honourable Mention in the ‘Excellence in Service Delivery’ category for its service extender program that serves the Ashcroft Library.

The program allows patrons to check out items and use the library’s amenities after hours. It is the first rural library in all of Canada to implement such a program.

“I was tremendously pleased and proud to accept this award on behalf of TNRD library staff, facilities staff, and IT staff, who all worked hard to bring this service extender program to life with a made-in-the-TNRD solution,” said TNRD Board Chair and Ashcroft Mayor Barbara Roden in a news release. “Libraries are the hub of many of our TNRD communities, and the service extender enables them to play an even larger role in residents’ lives. This program also shows how the TNRL continues to adapt and be a leader in a changing world.”
