MERRITT, B.C. — It’s still a few days away from winter tires being required on highways in the southern interior, but a taste of winter conditions will be offered on the Okanagan Connector Tuesday (Sept. 19) night.

In a special weather statement online, Environment Canada says Highway 97C between Kelowna and Merritt could see between two to four centimetres of snowfall near the Pennask Summit.

“A low-pressure system will spread precipitation to the southern interior on Tuesday. Freezing levels will lower Tuesday evening close to 1,700 metres,” the weather agency states.

Environment Canada warns that weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
