KAMLOOPS — An Okanagan man in his 20s was arrested after a crime spree throughout B.C.’s Interior that damaged two police vehicles and injured an officer ended in Kamloops early Friday (Sept. 8) morning.

In a news release, Kamloops RCMP say an officer patrolling at around 3:00 a.m. saw a suspect vehicle – a reddish-brown Ford 350 pickup truck – related to a flight from police and a theft report.

Police say the truck was reported stolen out of Sicamous on Saturday, Sept. 2 and was also associated to a theft in Clearwater on Wednesday and in Williams Lake and 94 Mile on Thursday. Police add it fled from officers in 100 Mile House at around 9:50 p.m. Thursday.

“Recognizing a suspect vehicle involved in multi-jurisdictional crime events was now in Kamloops, frontline officers knew the importance of stopping the offender and attempted to do so at Salish and Shuswap roads, but it once again fled, placing police and the public at risk,” Kamloops RCMP Supt. Jeff Pelley says.

Kamloops RCMP say they attempted to stop the truck with a spike-belt deployment on the Halston Connector, but it continued onto Batchelor Hills Drive where it reportedly proceeded to ram a police vehicle. RCMP say it was involved in a collision with a second police vehicle, then fled on Lac Du Bois Road.

The man was eventually arrested soon after and was held in custody before a bail hearing scheduled for Friday.

“This was a very dangerous situation involving an offender known to police, that occurred throughout several communities and ended with an officer injured and two police vehicles out of commission,” Pelley adds. “Thankfully, the officer was assessed by paramedics for injuries believed to be minor, and no one else was seriously injured in any of these events.”

The man faces charges such as assaulting a police officer with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, flight from police, possession of stolen property, among others.
