Evacuation order downgraded to alert near Stein Mountain wildfire northwest of Lytton
KAMLOOPS — An evacuation order put in place a week and a half ago because the threat from the Stein Mountain wildfire, has been downgraded to an evacuation alert. The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) announced the change Monday (Sept. 4) afternoon.
Two properties are affected by the change in status. The TNRD advises that even with the downgrade, residents of the properties should be prepared to vacate the properties at a moment’s notice.
The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says crews have been using a drone to conduct infrared scans of the fire line since Sunday evening, searching for hotspots which are then prioritized and attacked by ground crews the next day.
Forecasters are predicting a chance of showers over the wildfire Tuesday morning and again Wednesday morning.
