TRU women’s soccer lose close match to UBC Okanagan

KAMLOOPS — The first round of the 2023-24 battle for the President’s Cup between UBC Okanagan and Thompson Rivers University went the way of the Heat as they defeated TRU 1-0 in women’s soccer action Saturday (September 2).

Stefanie Young was the lone goal scorer in the 33rd minute of the match. Wolfpack keeper Aneesa O’Brien was solid in net, making four saves as a result while Talia Gagnon on the other end of the field made two stops for the shutout.

Wolfpack head coach Mark Penningtion says despite the slow start from his team, they battled hard the rest of the way.

“In the second half I thought we were the better team,” said Pennington. “We started slowly and didn’t do a couple things that we wanted to get done, were on the back foot and conceded – in our opinion – a sloppy goal.”
