Evacuation Orders Downgraded

TNRD downgrades evacuation order for Turtle Valley and some properties south of Kamloops

CHASE, B.C. — An evacuation order was lifted for residents of Turtle Valley impacted by the Bush Creek East wildfire.

In a news release issued Wednesday (Aug. 30) evening, the Thompson-Nicola Regional District (TNRD) downgraded the evacuation order to an evacuation alert for 57 properties in Turtle Valley.

The revised evacuation alert for Turtle Valley now covers 264 properties.

At its peak two weeks ago, the evacuation order covered 135 properties.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Bush Creek East wildfire was most active in the southern portion of Turtle Valley and east towards Sorrento.

Elsewhere, the TNRD downgraded an evacuation order for seven properties impacted by the Ross Moore Lake wildfire burning south of Kamloops. As of Wednesday evening, 351 properties in Electoral Areas “J” (Copper Desert Country), “L” (Grasslands) and “M” (Beautiful Nicola Valley-North) are on evacuation alert.

The TNRD says residents will be given as much notice as possible if the evacuation order comes back into effect, although they may receive limited notice due to changing conditions.
