SORRENTO, B.C. — The Bush Creek East wildfire was active west of the tracks in Sorrento overnight Tuesday (Aug. 29).

However, in a news release issued Wednesday morning, the Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) states no structures were lost.

A small evacuation order for 14 properties in the Sorrento area was issued Wednesday morning due to the wildfire, although the CSRD says all residents impacted have already left the area.

The CSRD says its firefighters and the BC Wildfire Service battled the wildfire for much of the night.

“Water supply was temporarily interrupted due to a pump failure issue which is now operational,” the CSRD states. “Firefighters quickly adapted, as they often face many challenges such as this. Sorrento residents will notice water was temporarily unavailable in some higher elevation locations, and water has now returned to normal. A boil water advisory in Sorrento remains in place.”

In an update Wednesday morning, the BC Wildfire Service lists the Bush Creek East wildfire at 43,067 hectares in size.

As of Wednesday morning, Environment Canada forecasts a small chance of showers for the Shuswap overnight and showers to begin Thursday morning and end Thursday afternoon.
