Kookipi Creek wildfire continues to block traffic through Fraser Canyon

KAMLOOPS — There is still no timeline for the reopening of Highway 1 through the Fraser Canyon.

The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the Kookipi Creek wildfire remains active in the area, raising safety concerns for anyone travelling through the area.

South of the Falls Creek reconstruction project, crews from BC Hydro are continuing their work to rebuild the power lines that were burned to the ground by the wildfire.

The 17 thousand hectare wildfire is located between Boston Bar and Lytton.

While access between the B.C. Interior and the Lower Mainland is cut off through the Fraser Canyon, motorists are able to travel between the two regions along Highway 99, Highway 3 and Highway 5.
