Playback Theatre workshop at TRU
KAMLOOPS — Playback Theatre is a form of applied theatre and is being offered this fall at Thompson Rivers University (TRU). It is open to actors and non actors, students, faculty, staff and community members. The four-day workshop starts on September 8 and will be conducted by an accredited Playback trainer, Debe.
In a recent news release, The School of Social Work & Human Service say “it uses theatre as a tool for community engagement, personal empowerment and healing.” Stories come to life in Playback theatre. They add, “audience or group members share moments from their lives and watch them enacted on the spot by trained actors. “
The school explains that Playback theatre is improvisational and uses music, movement, and dialogue to display an array of emotions.
The intensive workshop will cover the basics and provide core training. Each student will have a chance to try the roles of conductor and musician as well as actor.
