Planned ignitions in the future for Ross Moore Lake wildfire south of Kamloops
KAMLOOPS — The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says it is talking with ranchers around the Ross Moore Lake wildfire as it plans and prepares to burn away fuel from the wildfire south of Kamloops. The burns are expected to occur in the next 48 to 72 hours along the eastern flank of the fire, south of Long Lake Road.
Officials say structure protection teams are moving along the east flank, establishing systems and removing fuel sources located near buildings, following FireSmart principles.
The BCWS says the primary area of concern with the blaze continues to be on the southern edge of the wildfire. It says construction of a containment line is continuing. Crews say the cooler temperatures and increased humidity are helping to reduce fire behaviour in the short term, helping crews to work more efficiently.
The wildfire is still considered Out of Control. An area restriction order remains in place near the fire. The size of the fire is measured at 78.5 sq. kilometres.
