Non-essential travels restricted in the Okanagan region
KAMLOOPS — British Columbia has banned non-essential stays in hotels or campgrounds in the Okanagan region.
“Very large numbers of people are evacuated in the Okanagan and we especially need more accommodation there. This order will help ensure we have accommodation available for the people who need it in this time of crisis,” explained Premier David Eby.
Emergency Measures Minister Bowinn Ma also added that accommodation is needed for critical-response personnel, such as firefighters and health-care workers.
“We are working closely with the B.C. Hotel Association to quickly secure accommodations as they become available and are grateful for the industry’s co-operation in supporting people in our communities,” she said.
