More evacuation orders and alerts to come after what firefighters call as “one of the most challenging nights”
KAMLOOPS – After what B.C. Wildfire Service (BCWS) calls as “one of the most challenging nights” for first responders this summer, they say winds are much lighter today and relative humidity overnight may diminish fire activity today.
However, due to high drought levels there is the change for continued aggressive fire behavior today.
On an update this morning, BCWS say heavy smoke is impacting visibility for fire growth and there will be expanded Evacuation Orders and Alerts today based on fire growth.
As of 8 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 19) morning, the Bush Creek East wildfire has burned across of Highway 1 between Chase and Sorrento and there is an evacuation order where fire has impacted Highway 1 and in the Turtle Valley area. Highway 1 remains closed.
