New wildfire ignites south of Barriere

BARRIERE, B.C. — A new wildfire ignited south of the District of Barriere.

The BC Wildfire Service says the Oliver Creek wildfire near Exlou was discovered at around 10:30 p.m. Thursday (Aug. 17). It’s currently measured at around four hectares in size and is suspected to be caused by lightning.

In a social media post, Barriere Fire Rescue says their members and trucks are back at their fire all and the wildfire service’s crews have arrived. The fire is very visible from Highway 5 in Louis Creek.
