Ross Moore Lake Wildfire: Planned ignitions to control fire from spreading
BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) said planned ignitions occurred on the Ross Moore Lake wildfire yesterday and that has produced a column of smoke visible from Kamloops.
The information officer for the Ross Moore and Adam’s Lake wildfire, Andy Oldroyd, said the intent of the operation is to prevent the fire from spreading further.
According to BCWS, this tactic helps in the removal of unburnt fuel between a machine guard and the fire perimeter, in order to achieve containment between McConnell Lake Road and the pipeline.
Fire behavior on the southwest flank, alongside increased winds and hot and dry conditions, are expected to produce smoke which will be visible from Kamloops, Highway 5, Highway 5A and the surrounding area.
