KAMLOOPS — The Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack men’s basketball team got a taste of NCAA Division I competition Thursday (Aug. 3) night.

Unfortunately for the Pack, it came in the form of an 83-60 loss to Boise State University from Idaho in an exhibition game at the Tournament Capital Centre. The Pack say nearly 1,000 fans attended.

“It shows me as a coach and shows our players that the community cares, these people care about the WolfPack so a big shoutout to the fans that supported us,” Chad Jacobson, WolfPack men’s basketball team head says. “It was a great energy in here and this is an experience these guys will remember for a long time.”

Fifth-year guard Daniel Bost led the way for the Pack with 16 points. Asher Mayan and Cyrus Harrison added nine points each, while Denys Bachurin and Simon Crossfield also added seven points each.

“I thought our guys competed and that was our main goal going into the game was to compete for 40 minutes,” Jacobson says. “I don’t think we competed for all 40 minutes, but I thought we did a pretty good job for the majority of the game. We ran into a really good team that is well coached, but it was a lot of fun.”

Boise State plays NCAA Division I basketball, the highest level of intercollegiate basketball in the United States. On their Canadian tour, Boise State have collected wins of 134-70 over Trinity Western University and 93-57 over the University of Fraser Valley.

The Pack begin their regular season Nov. 3 against Trinity Western.
