Nicola Lake beaches reopened as algae bloom clears

MERRITT, B.C. — Less than one month after it was enacted, Interior Health has lifted its beach closure for Nicola Lake.
The beaches were closed on July 13 due to an algae bloom.
In a news release issued Friday (Aug. 4), IH says recent water samples taken at Monck Park did not detect the presence of cyanobacterial toxin.
Beach users are still advised to watch for signs of algae. If they see or have contact with algae, they are urged to rinse their bodies with clean water.
