City of Kamloops closes nature parks and trails amid drought and fire conditions

KAMLOOPS — All nature parks and trails within the City of Kamloops will be closed as of Friday (Aug. 4) at 4:00 p.m.

In a news release, the city says the order was made by Kamloops Fire Rescue Chief Ken Uzeloc due to the current fire danger and extreme drought conditions.

The parks will be closed to bike, pedestrian and vehicular traffic. The city says parks crews are installing closure signs and will continue to do so over the next few days. Crews will also monitor city parks to ensure residents and visitors are abiding by closures, and Community Services Officers may issue fines for violations.

Additionally, the city will close the Barnhartvale Landfill and Yard Waste Depot at the same time, and it will remain closed until further notice.

Residents who wish to report unauthorized use of closed nature parks can call Community Services at (250) 828-3409 and state the time and park location. Residents are also asked to call 911 immediately if they find a fire.
