Smoky skies bulletin expands to include North Thompson and Shuswap
KAMLOOPS — Smoke that has filled Kamloops’ air in recent days is expected to spread throughout the region.
Along with the South Thompson, a smoky skies bulletin has been issued for the North Thompson and Shuswap region by the B.C. government Wednesday (Aug. 2) morning. Smoky skies are expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility in Kamloops and area for the next 24 to 48 hours.
“During a wildfire, smoke conditions can change quickly over short distances and can vary considerably hour-by-hour,” the province states.
Environment Canada warns that wildfire smoke can be harmful to everyone’s health even at low levels. People with lung disease or heart disease, along with older adults, children, pregnant people and those who work outdoors are at higher risk of experiencing health effects caused by wildfire smoke.
