Puppies abandoned on logging road near Kamloops

KAMLOOPS– The BCSPCA is asking for the publics assistance after four puppies were found on a logging road outside of Kamloops.

According to the shelter, the dogs were found by two separate people who each found a pair over the weekend.

“You might be able to see here, they are pretty skinny, there’s a lot of ribs here, spines sticking out a bit too much, the hips are sticking out quite a bit,” Daria Evans, Kamloops BC SPCA animal centre manager, told CFJC News.

“So we don’t know how long they might have been out on that logging road, but its most likely that they were dumped there, unfortunately, we are seeing a trend of people who are becoming more desperate when it comes to rehoming their pets.”

The Kamloops branch manager believes this has a lot to do with the cost of living, a lack of pet-friendly rentals and the pet market being saturated with pandemic breeders.

Though the BCSPCA currently has a waitlist for surrenders, they can provide other options for looking to rehome their pets.

“Anyone in a situation where you are needing to rehome an animal, please reach out to us even if we do have a waiting list or we aren’t able to take the animal right at that moment, we can try and explore other options we can try and find ways to help,” Evans said

“It’s still better than having them abandoned somewhere fending for themselves.”

The four puppies are on a feeding program and once they are a healthy weight they will be adoptable through the BCSPCA.

Anyone with information on how these puppies ended up on the logging road is encouraged to call the animal helpline at 1-855-622-7722.
