City of Kamloops rescinds evacuation alert; hundreds of TNRD residents impacted by large wildfire can return home

KAMLOOPS — The impending safety risk for residents affected by the Ross Moore Lake wildfire south of Kamloops is dwindling.

In a news release issued Friday (July 28) morning, the City of Kamloops says it rescinded its evacuation alert for the Knutsford neighbourhood.

Additionally, the Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) removed more than 300 properties from its evacuation order due to the Ross Moore Lake wildfire. As of Friday morning, 18 properties in the Copper Desert Country and Grasslands electoral areas remain on evacuation order, down from 344 Thursday. Those properties are:

  • 2865 Edith Lake Rd.
  • 3015 Edith Lake Rd.
  • 3345 Edith Lake Rd.
  • 5140 Lac Le Jeune Rd.
  • 5240 Lac Le Jeune Rd.
  • 5005 Long Lake Rd.
  • 5085 Long Lake Rd.
  • 5155 Long Lake Rd.
  • 5525 Long Lake Rd.
  • 5705 Long Lake Rd.
  • 5725 Long Lake Rd.
  • 5900 Long Lake Rd.
  • 6100 Long Lake Rd.
  • 6200 Long Lake Rd.
  • 6405 Long Lake Rd.
  • 6440 Long Lake Rd.
  • 6455 Long Lake Rd.; and
  • all areas highlighted red in the attached map

However, 327 properties in the Copper Desert Country and Grasslands electoral areas are on evacuation alert. Those properties are highlighted orange on the map above. Properties highlighted in green have been given ‘all-clear’ status.

The news comes as BC Wildfire Service crews become more optimistic in containing the 2,600-hectare wildfire after a shift in good fortune with the weather.

Both the City and the TNRD warn evacuation orders and alerts can be reinstated should conditions change.
