CSRD closes North Shuswap boat launch to powered boats as lake level reaches historic low
CELISTA, B.C. — The Columbia Shuswap Regional District (CSRD) has closed one of its North Shuswap boat launches to powered boats, as the lake level reaches historic lows.
In a news release issued Wednesday (July 26), the CSRD says until further notice, the Bristow Road Boat Launch in Celista will be closed to powered boats. Hand-launching of smaller boats and paddleboards is still allowed.
People with powered boats are still able to use the Magna Bay Boat Launch, a five-minute drive to the east.
According to the City of Salmon Arm, the level of Shuswap Lake measured at the city’s water treatment plant is at its lowest point in recent memory for late July.
