Simpcw First Nation, Barriere RCMP sign partnership commitment
BARRIERE, B.C. — A memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be signed by a First Nation and RCMP detachment in the North Thompson Tuesday.
In a news release, Simpcw First Nation announced Kukwpi7 (Chief) George Lampreau and council will meet with Barriere RCMP at the Chu Chua Community Hall Tuesday (July 25) for the signing of intent to move their relationship forward.
“We have been working at a positive relationship between our Simpcw community and the RCMP of the local detachment, especially with our youth… In times of great distress, we want our youth to see the RCMP in a positive light and be comfortable in their presence,” Tina Donald, Simpcw councillor says. “The RCMP members have a stressful job protecting our territory; we want to continue sharing positive stories about our local detachments.”
Simpcw states the purpose of the MOU is to ensure Barriere RCMP creates an easier connection of services offered by the First Nation to its band members, particularly in times of crisis.
