Twinning of Trans Canada near Tappen to begin this fall

TAPPEN, B.C. — The latest leg in the massive twinning project on the Trans Canada Highway near Salmon Arm is set to begin this fall.

In a news release, the province’s Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says work will begin on the stretch between Tappen Valley Road and Ford Road, northwest of Salmon Arm.

The $128-million contract for this leg has been awarded to Emil Anderson Construction. It is expected to take three construction seasons, with completion in 2026.

The project involves twinning the highway to four lanes, replacing the Tappen overpass bridge, building frontage roads and a pullout for commercial and passenger vehicles.

Total cost of the entire project is $243 million, with $161 million coming from the province and another $82 million from the federal government.
